How did Symfoni start?
2009.07.17

Symfoni's products were launched in 1994, in connection with the fact that Lotus recently had presented their new group product and the demand for content applications presented itself. Symfoni obtained a good customer platform in the mid 90's, under its owner Cinet AS. Merkantildata, which later was called Ementor, developed the solutions further and in 2001 there was approximately 150.000 users in Norway.

In 2002, a software company from Finland, TJ Group, bought Symfoni's products in order to build a Nordic distribution network.

In 2004, there was a fusion between TJ Group and the German company Gedys Software AG. When this occurred, some of the present owners bought out Symfoni's products and some of TJ Groups applications. In addition, they also bought the companies TJ Group AS and Gedys Softwarehouse AS. The aim was to create the leading supplier of Collaboration Software, in the Nordic region.

In 2004, Symfoni had 19 million in turnover and 2,4 million in result. Three years later, in 2007, these number were expanded too 91 million in turnover and 10 million in result. Thereby, the company had grown 20%, in this period. Furthermore, they had also bought new companies and products in order to obtain the right market position and a total coverage over the Nordic countries.

In 2005, Symfoni bought the Danish company Mindcom ApS and later the IBM based software department to the Danish company Key2Know ApS. The position as Denmark's leading company, in the field, was obtained through the acquisition of IT Companion ApS in Aarhus.

In Norway, the expansion has more or less occurred organically, except from the acquisition of Vever in may 2008 and Informatikk AS's product and customer portfolio on the product Web publisher in 2005.

In Sweden, Collaboration Software AB was established in November 2006, together with the Swedish IT company Mandator AB (now Fujitsu). When Fujitsu took over Mandator AB, Symfoni bought 49% of Mandator's share.

In may 2008, Symfoni bought Vever AB and thereby became located in Stockholm, Karlstad and Gøteborg. Today, Vever and Swedish Collaboration Software AB go under the name Symfoni Software AB. Currently, the company has 700 customers and approximately 400.000 users.
